An Analysis of the Document and Content of Two Hadiths of Imam Reza (A.S) Concerning Luminous Creation

Although such narrations are abundant, just two are narrated by Imam Reza (A.S). In the current study, the document of the two narrations are first analyzed in order for validating the authenticity of their narrator. Then the author has attempted to find the original written sources in which the date of the narrations is cited in order to identify the oldest time they belong to. Moreover, the contents of these two narrations are evaluated based on and compared to that of other presumably-correct narrations in order to determine how much they correspond to one another. Finally, the study comes to the conclusion that, despite the weakness of the document of these two narrations, they are acceptable based on all historical and thematic evidences examined.

By considering various events in Imam Reza’s fruitful life, one can find plenty of instructive points and many lessons to learn. One of the principles used in Razavi conduct is the principle of “Tolerance”. Imam Reza (A.S) used to discuss with many intellectual and religious groups and employ a host of strategies in discussion sessions, one of which was the principle of tolerance. The current study is an attempt to answer the following question with a descriptive-analytic method: Which manners of tolerance was used by Imam Reza in dealing with followers of different religions? Commitment to human morality, respecting and being compassionate towards non-Muslims, audience-recognition, being familiar with the language and the sacred texts of other religions, freedom of thought and expression, recognizing the right of other religions’ followers in asking questions,showing religious tolerance and affability while dealing with them and peaceful coexistence with them are among the most important features of Imam Reza (A.S)’s behavior towards followers of other religions.

Based on Islamic logic, Hijrat is a principle equivalent to Jihad, results and effects of which serve the achievement of Islam’s goals and ideals. So, we can analyze Imam Reza’s transfer from Medina to Merv and his living in Khorasan according to the theory of “Hijrat and Civilization-building”, given the results and the effects of his hijrat. Although Imam Reza’s short-term presence in Khorasan brought about a plentiful of blessings and good results for the city, the most important results of his Hijrat, among others, are reinforcing rational-oriented current, flourishing scientific and translation movements, developing the method of debates and expanding the geographical boundaries of Shiites. In addition, Mashhad, the City of Imam Reza, as the center of Khorasan’s civilization, and the Shrines of offspring of Imams have played a key role in promoting and stabilizing Shiite civilization in Iran.

The methods he employed in the debate include interpretation of Holy Quran by the use of Holy Quran, referring to the context of revelation of verses, Jari and Tatbigh (the flowing and comparable nature of verses), stating instances of the verses and brief interpretations of verses. Imam Reza (A.S) cleared many obscurities of verses about Ahl al-Bayt (P.B.U.T.) using the approach of interpreting Holy Quran by the use of Holy Quran, proved the capability of Ahl al-Bayt in being the successors of Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H.) by referring to the context of revelation of verses, and attributed some verses to Imam Ali (A.S) through Jari and Tatbigh approach. Also, using the approach of instances of verses, he recognized Ahl al-Bayt as instances of Dhawi al-Qurba (literally meaning close relatives) mentioned in Holy Quran. Finally, by briefly interpreting such verses as “And warn [O Mohammad] your closest Kindred”, he considered the verse as an honor for the family of the Prophet. The process is carried ...  Read More The theory of "Argumentation" serves as an aspect of discourse which aims at presenting an argument to bring about an internal influence within the addressees. The process is carried out through the utilization of linguistic elements in discourse. In the present era, one might use this new method of discourse analysis to open up a new way to the authentic heritage of Imam Reza (A.S). In line with the necessities of his time and along with purification of theological discussions, Imam Reza (A.S) adopted an argumentative discourse and a guidance-oriented approach to maximally use the reasoning potential of his addresses. In addition to the scientific explanation of the argumentation theory, the study at hand has set out to answer this question: According to Imam Reza (A.S)'s doctrine, which themes serve as the main axioms of the theological arguments? Regarding the research method, the study has employed a descriptive-analytical approach. Consequently, after specification of the conceptual boundaries of the term argumentation and similar terms such as polemic, sermon, argument and persuasion, the contemporary approaches to this theory are used to categorize the themes of Divine Oneness, Imamate, and Prophecy as the frequent themes of those traditions received from Imam Reza (A.S), based on argumentative discourse. In the eyes of the authors, the Imamate theme – as the most frequent theme in Imam Reza's (A.S) theological arguments – has not only been a necessity of the time, but also an indication of a necessity in Shi'a school and Imam Reza's (A.S) cultural advice on the necessity of equipping the Shi'a with different means to prove the principle of Imamate. In other words, as a result of using this discursive style, the concept of the Imamate of the Prophet's Family (A.S) – as one of the main issues of the Muslim society and the essence of Shi'a school – receives more attention.

This sensitivity is considered from some perspectives: political and social changes of Abbasside era (and particularly caliphate of Mamoon) on the one hand and acceptance of position of Imam Reza (PBUH) on the other hand. Study of political tradition of Imam Reza (PBUH) is conducted based on the fact that political tradition of innocent imams is not only historical reality but also contains valuable advices and principles for their followers. Main focus of this paper is interaction of Imam Reza (PBUH) with despotism (particularly during position of Imam Reza). Some historical issues were raised as introduction of discussion and for showing social and political condition and two periods before his position and after his position have been studied. Classification of changes into periods before position and after position of Imam Reza (PBUH) has clarified results of movement and conduct of Imam (PBUH). In period after his position, some probabilities and doubts of Imam Reza (PBUH) are discussed and political positions of Imam are mentioned. Conclusion Section mentions some results of this paper by mentioning some instances of Hazrat’s tradition and emphasizes that we should note that fighting against and opposing to the oppressive rulers based on fixed principles of Shiite teachings (absolute negation of ungodly government ) and considering time and space circumstances (cooperation with foe of God by observing some considerations ) can take different forms and this is exactly the thing which has been manifested in tradition of the household of the prophet of Islam. What has been clarified based on these teachings is that discontinuation of struggle and opposition has not been ordered and it is not permissible to compromise with the oppressors even under the hardest conditions despite different forms of opposition to oppressive rulers but form of struggle and expedient things should be considered.

What is less taken into account is the civilization-building nature of this migration. According to this approach, this migration, despite its exile-like nature hiding in disguise of claims by Bani Abbas tyrants that they want to glorify Ahl-al-Bayt and return them the rule, was in fact a move towards stabilizing Shiism in Iran and creating an Islamic and Shiite civilization in the country as well as a plan to expand this profound move to other Islamic countries and eventually creating an Islamic and Shiite rule and civilization all over the world. From the Shiite point of view, this concept has a profound connection with the issue of Absence, Expectation and Advent which eventually leads to a universal apocalyptic government. Realization of their great mission vested in them by God is possible merely if people observe their rights and fulfill public duties. Getting familiar with Ahl-al-Bayt's rights as well as people's obligations towards them is an effective and constructive way to observe these obligations and fulfill the duties as well as to inform others and institutionalize the relation between Imams and people. Holy Quran and the Tradition (Sunnah) of Holy Prophet and Imams are great sources for getting familiar with Imams. This paper offers Imam Reza's viewpoint regarding Ahl-al-Bayt's rights on people based on Hadith sources through descriptive analytic method. Results illustrate a number of these duties and obligations which Muslims and Shiites need in order to have a desirable relation with Ahl-al-Bayt.

The analysis of the interpretive narratives regarding Imam Reza indicates that these interpretive principles include undistortability of Quran, its miracles, its immortality, its conductive nature and science of recitations. Interpretive methods that the narratives suggest include: interpretation of a verse according to a comparable one, interpretation of verses according to interpretive narratives, interpretation through explanation of unfamiliar words, interpretation of a verse through the cause to its revelation, interpretation through specification of certain provisions, interpretation through designation of the addressee, interpretation by querying Quran, interpretation through expression of instances and examples, interpretation by defining the reasons to propositions, interpretation of a verse via companionship method, detailing Quran stories, explication of similar verses and adaptation of verses on external examples.

Accordingly, the present article seeks to explore the possibility and areas of promotion, deepening and expanding religious lifestyle in Iranian society.The basic assumption is that in the Iranian society, influenced by the waves of modernity, there are different models of lifestyle along with the religious and traditional lifestyles and there exists a serious competition (in the cultural field and in particular to encompass a variety of lifestyles), as well. Therefore, the main issue of this study is to investigate the adequacy or accountability of religious models of lifestyle to meet the existing needs and how to adapt these models to the existing conditions. In this regard, Imam Reza's (P.B.U.H.) tradition has been notable as an example of the Islamic lifestyle, due to his lifetime in the center of Iranian society.The questions of the study are: What are the features and dimentions of religious lifestyle? What are the background and factors of the establishment, influence, and continuity of the Islamic lifestyle in Iranian society? To collect the data, a questionnaire was given to the sociologist professors of Tabriz. Drawing on descriptive and analytical approaches, this study examined the problems and obstacles of the establishment and continuity of Islamic lifestyle (pure life) and suggested some solutions:first, the diversity of religious lifestyles should be noted. Second, the efforts of religious revivalists in contemporary periods to promote Islamic lifestyle should be addressed in the cultural policy centers.

They make understanding of the word easy, too. ...  Read More Spiritual figures of speech are ornaments that decorate the speech and bring the ordinary language closer to the figurative language. They make understanding of the word easy, too. Employing them in the speech indicates the capabilities of the speaker. The eloquent words of the Imams (P.B.U.H.), which are full of rhetoric, eloquence, and various technical and literary issues, are influenced by the familiarity with the Quran and the divine knowledge. Their words are at a high level from the literary and rhetorical point of view and are considered as a sea of literary and rhetorical sciences. The Great Imams (P.B.U.H.) have multiplied the effects of their words with the use of spiritual figures. It is noteworthy that the Arabic speech has been mostly examined from the perspective of rhetorical figures, and there has been little research conducted from the perspective of spiritual figures of speech. This research, using descriptive and analytic approaches, investigated the spiritual figures of speech in the words of Imam Sajjad (P.B.U.H.) and Imam Reza (P.B.U.H.) and assessed and recognized the elements of spiritual aesthetics and their effects in the words of these greats.

In one of these debates, Imam Reza (P.B.U.H.) ...  Read More The subject of the common debates among Imam Reza (P.B.U.H.), Christian scholars, and Jewish scholars in Marv was "the divinity of the Jesus". In one of these debates, Imam Reza (P.B.U.H.) argued against this issue. He presented direct arguments against the divinity of the Jesus and indirect arguments to prove the prophethood of the Jesus Christ and Muhammad (P.B.U.H.). Imam Reza (P.B.U.H.) utilized semantic and linguistic proofs to influence and persuade the audiences and to neutralize their arguments, as well. The use of emphasis, cohesive devices, and special verbs plays a significant role in highlighting the speech, whereas ignoring, understating, and using expressions without connotations are effective in marginalizing some concepts. Some of his proofs are textual and specifically linguistic. Some of them are contextual and were influenced by the setting, the point of view, and the beliefs of the audiences. The current study, using descriptive and analytical approaches, examines the debate of Imam Reza (P.B.U.H.) and Catholicos about the prophethood of Muhammad (P.B.U.H.). This study uses the ideological square of Van Dijk as a methodology which is centered on highlighting and marginalizing.

  In one of the narratives of Imam Reza (P.B.U.H.), the phrase "and of the earth the like of them", which is a part of verse 12 in the chapter of Divorce in the Quran, was clarified as ...  Read More In one of the narratives of Imam Reza (P.B.U.H.), the phrase "and of the earth the like of them", which is a part of verse 12 in the chapter of Divorce in the Quran, was clarified as domed heavens and earth. Due to the various interpretations about this verse (such as numerical similarity, qualitative similarity, and creation similarity between heavens and earth), an investigation of narratives related to this verse would highlight the role of Imam Reza (P.B.U.H.) in clarifying the creation of heavens and earth and the similarity of the earth to heavens. This narrative was referred in various recourses and was the base of numerous interpretations of seven earths. In this narrative, the numerical similarity between earth and heavens was mentioned. Due to some conflicts about the implications of the word "earth" in the Quran, this narrative was considered invalid and falsified. Therefore, in this research, the text of the narrative was examined from the perspective of the Quran, narratives, Arabic language, and some facts. The results indicated the validity of this narrative and Imam Reza's (P.B.U.H.) insight and knowledge in the explanation of the verses relating to creation.

In this research with the scientific authority of Imam Reza (AS) sayings, concept and extentions of greed and its kinds is inferred from the Razavi texts. Main problem of this paper is discovery of Functions and instances of “holy greed” in expressing OF ALIME – ALE- Muhammad (PBUH). Research Method is Descriptive Analytical Basically and by study of traditions of Razavi(AS) The fact of praised greed and extentions and its samples will be explain. Studies and examining the sayings of Imam Reza (AS) for “greed ology” showed that in some cases, had commanded to be greedy. Imam Reza (AS) with the formula of command “EHRESOO” in a comprehensive tradition have taught, three headlines of “praised greed” to the whole world. Greed on “to grant needs of believers” and “to give happiness to believers” and” to fend off sadness from believers” has been command of Imam Reza (AS). In the paper with Contextual study of Hadith of Imam Reza (AS) and other infallible Imams (AS) is inferred and explained.

Using descriptive and analytic ...  Read More Imam Reza (P.B.U.H.), as an innocent Imam and leader, has undoubtedly used special methods for the preaching of Islam and leading people in the society. Using descriptive and analytic approaches, this study attempts to find the methods by which Imam Reza (P.B.U.H.) was able to preach Islam and Shia religion. The researchers have attempted to analyze Imam Reza’s (P.B.U.H.) preaching methods from three different dimensions namely cognitive, emotional, and behavioral based on verse 125 of Surah An-Nahl. Cognitive approaches include methods that Imam Reza (P.B.U.H.) adopted to increase people’s awareness about theoretical bases and beliefs, the most important of which are explaining the basics and the worldview of Islam, the use of reasoning, argumentation, and rationalism. Emotional methods are those by which the preacher attempts to guide people through their emotions and psychological tendencies, the most significant of which in Imam Reza’s (P.B.U.H.) preaching methods include affection and kindness, showing reverence for one’s personality, giving advice, and recognizing the audience and opportunities. Behavioral methods are those by which the preacher attempts to change and modify unfavorable behaviors in the individual and in return create and stabilize appropriate behaviors. The most important behavioral methods of preaching are as follows: delivering models and lectures, debating in the best way, enjoining good and forbidding wrong, reservation, traveling to scientific centers and training pupils... .

This research intends to respond to this main question : What are the main components in social interactions inspired from the letter of Imam Reza(a.s.) to Abdolazim Hasani(a.s.)? What has been analyzed in this article includes cases which have been collected through a problem-oriented attitude reference to the Qur-an and creditable traditions of the infallible Imams in particular the instructions and practical behaviors of Imam Reaz(a.s.) , though in presenting these components, this research does not limit itself. At one side human being habitude and familiarity is believing a matter after observing it, which has caused continuously demands for seeing God, and on the other side religious scripts has emphasized the inconceivability of this issue. Infiltration of false narrations which quoted the eyesight of Prophet Mohammad in the night of Meraj and seeing the Divinity by the believers in the day of resurrection in Sunni hadith references, created a context for Muslims to have credence on this issue until the era of Imam Reza and led to asking Imam about this issue. Imam as the true guardian of the Islam criticized this doubt by Quranic and rational logics. The author of this article in addition to discussing the opinions of Imami, Mu’tazilite and Ash’arites about the visibility of God, surveys about the principle narrations of Imam Reza on monotheism, including the conversation between Abu-Ghorah and Imam Reza on criticizing this issue.

Therefore, it has been emphasized in the Holy Quran and Imams’ conduct including Imam Reza’s (AS) conduct. The basic question is how approximation of religions is demonstrated in in Imam Reza’s (AS) conduct and speech. Evidence suggests that Imam Reza (AS), as an efficient leader whose insights are taken from the holy Quran and prophetic tradition, made an effort during his blessed life to emphasize the importance of approximation of religions and Islamic unity in theory and in practice. Therefore, the study hypothesis is as follows: “In Imam Reza’s (AS) life, examples such as the centrality of the Holy Quran, return to the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH), the correction of social morality, human equality, scientific and educational activities, and freedom of thought are demonstrations of approximation of religions and Imam’s attention to this issue. This is a descriptive analytic study. To carry out the study, notes were taken and they were categorized. Afterwards, data was analyzed and finally, the results were presented.
